Tito Jackson, the renowned singer and guitarist from The Jackson 5 and later The Jacksons, has passed away at the age of 70. He’s the elder brother to the R&B legend, the late Michael Jackson.
Born Toriano Adaryll Jackson on October 15, 1953, in Gary, Indiana, Tito was the third of ten children born to Katherine and Joe Jackson. The Jackson 5 formed in 1964 and gained prominence in 1969 when they signed an exclusive seven-year deal with Berry Gordy’s Motown Records. The group went on to sell over 150 million records worldwide.
Their hits, including “ABC,” “The Love You Save,” “I’ll Be There,” and “I Want You Back,” all topped the Billboard Hot 100. In recognition of their influence and success, the Jackson 5 were honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1980 and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.
Tito embarked on a solo career in 2003, performing and touring blues and funk music worldwide. He also toured with the BB King Blues Band, with notable tours in 2017, 2018, and 2019. Tito’s latest single, “Love One Another,” released in 2021, was inspired by the pandemic and aimed to convey a message of love, unity, and peace.
Tito is survived by his three sons—Taj, Taryll, and TJ—all of whom were part of the R&B group 3T, which was formed in 1994 and managed by their father. His ex-wife, Delores “Dee Dee” Martes, passed away in 1994.
