Italian Lega Serie A football team Napoli and their forward, Victor Osimhen, are reportedly working towards resolving their differences after a turbulent transfer window in which the Nigerian striker was tempted to move to Al Ahli of Saudi Arabia or England’s Chelsea.
A potential transfer to Al-Ahli, which would have netted him an eye-watering €40 million per year, fell apart when Napoli demanded a higher transfer fee, prompting the Saudi club to pursue Brentford’s Ivan Toney instead.
As a result, tensions between Osimhen and the club escalated, leading to reports that Napoli planned to exile Osimhen and strip him of his No. 9 jersey.
However, following the transfer deadline, Napoli may reconsider their stance. The club reportedly recognizes Osimhen’s value in achieving their goals this season and is looking to reintegrate him into the squad after the international break.
This shift is partly influenced by Romelu Lukaku – who Napoli was positioning to replace Osimhen, decided to give Osimhen a lifeline by going for No. 11 jersey instead of Osimhen’s No. 9, signaling a potential path to reconciliation.
The Nigerian forward’s future at the club, which looked dicey, appear now to be on track for a peaceful resolution of the impasse with his club.
Although there are no plans to reopen transfer talks with Saudi clubs, Osimhen may have a chance to fully repair his relationship with Napoli and continue contributing to the team for the new season, or at least until the next transfer window in January.
