Enugu Governor Peter Mbah Inaugurates Committee to Fast-Track New Minimum Wage Implementation

Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has on Thursday August 29, inaugurated a committee to implement the new National Minimum Wage. The governor said his government is speeding up the implementation to demonstrate his commitment to ensuring the state’s workforce is adequately compensated and motivated.

This initiative is not just a promise kept but a step towards ensuring that our workers are motivated and adequately compensated,” Governor Mbah stated during the inauguration ceremony.

The newly formed committee comprises key government and labor union stakeholders. It is tasked with producing a comprehensive report within one month to facilitate the swift implementation of the new wage structure. The governor urged the committee members to engage in wide-ranging consultations and develop a plan that aligns with the administration’s vision for a productive and satisfied public service.

“Our goal is to ensure we have an environment where workers feel valued and are driven to achieve the lofty goals we have set for our state,” Governor Mbah added, expressing confidence that the committee would not only meet but exceed expectations, thereby setting a new benchmark for labor relations in Enugu State.

The establishment of this committee reaffirms the governor’s commitment to the welfare of the state’s employees and his stated vision of transforming Enugu State from a $4 billion to a $30 billion economy before he leaves office.

Enugu State is one of the states of the Nigerian federation to commence the process of implementing the new minimum wage of N70,000 and the consequential adjustments that follows it, since it was enacted as a law on July 29.
