Ekiti State Leads Nigerian States In Annual IGR Growth Rate

Ekiti State has ranked first in the 2023 Annual Growth Rate Ranking, with its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) increasing from N17.03bn in 2022 to N29.82bn in 2023, marking a 75% growth rate.

The rating was done by Joint Tax Board and published at its 155th meeting in Suleja, Niger State on Wednesday.

The improvement is attributed to the state’s enhanced reporting and significant growth in IGR. The obviously good performance of the Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, is believed to have endeared him to taxpayers, leading to improved voluntary compliance”, the report said.

Ekiti State also improved its ranking from one of the worst five to 16th in the Total Collections Ranking and from 33rd to 15th under Direct Assessment Parameters.

The state also ranked 25th in Withholding Tax collections and 28th in MDA collections.

Ekiti State Internal Revenue Service Chairman Olanitan Olatona promised that revenue collections and reporting in the state will even improve further in the future.
