U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson has gone a step further after President Joe Biden offered not to seek a second term in office and demanded his outright resignation as president.
Johnson said the presidency is too precious and if “If Joe Biden is not fit to run for president, he is not fit to serve as president. He must resign the office immediately. November 5 cannot arrive soon enough,” said House Speaker Mike Johnson.
Biden’s decision to withdraw from the campaign came shortly after being diagnosed with COVID-19, forcing him off the campaign trail and into isolation in Rehoboth Beach, Deleware.
He joins a small club of US presidents who have decided to retire after just one term, the last being Lyndon Johnson in 1968.

Biden took office in January 2021, pledging to heal the “soul of America” after four turbulent years under Trump and the shock of his supporters’ January 6, 2021, Capitol assault. He faced criticism over the catastrophic US withdrawal from Afghanistan and inflation, contributing to his doddery image played up by Republicans.
