The Nigerian government has clarified that an aircraft crash reported this morning was an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), often referred to as a drone, and not an air force helicopter.

Media reports this morning (not JolibaLive New!) wrongly suggesting a Nigerian Air Force helicopter crashed and that the pilot successfully ejected and was unhurt.

But Nigerian Air Force spokesman, Edward Gabkwet, said non of its manned aircraft was involved in an accident. What crashed at the Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State was a drone.

A NAF Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) experienced a mishap after take-off for a mission, near Rumji Village and about 15 km from base.  Since it is an unmanned vehicle, there were no casualties on board or on the ground”, the military spokesman said.

Mr Gabtwet added that a “preliminary investigation has since commenced to ascertain what may have caused the mishap.”

He reassured the country the ”minor setback will not, in any way, impinge on all ongoing operations.”
