Nigeria’s Vice President Shettima Jets Out To United States For Official Engagements While President Tinubu Is In France For Medicals

Vice President Kashim Shettima has left Abuja for Dallas, United States of America, to represent President Bola Tinubu at the 2024 US-Africa Business Summit organized by the Corporate Council on Africa.

A statement released by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha, says the VP will join a distinguished group of political and business leaders from across Africa, the United States, and beyond.

The summit will include high-level dialogues, networking sessions, and plenary discussions about collaborating for economic growth.

Other African leaders expected to attend the summit include President Joseph Boakai of Liberia, President Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi, President Joao Lourenço of Angola, President Mokgweetsi E. K. Masisi of Botswana, President José Maria Neves of Cape Verde, and Deputy Prime Minister Honourable Nthomeng Majara of Lesotho.

Senator Shettima will also speak at the Roundtable on African Infrastructure Investment, focusing on its impact and returns, and later address a high-level panel on agribusiness, exploring the transition from food insecurity to robust agribusiness ventures.

Another itinerary of the vice president is to contribute to a plenary session discussing Africa’s Energy Future, while also chairing a session on promoting a “Invest in Nigeria’ initiative.

The statement did not give a specific date for his return, only that he will do so after his engagements are completed.

The Vice President’s trip happens at a time the President, Bola Tinubu is away in France. Tinubu flew to France on Thursday May 2 for medical reasons – according some media reports, after attending the World Economic Forum summit in Saudi Arabia.
