Surprising commuters at one of London’s major train stations on Monday, Alicia Keys, the American singer-songwriter, delivered an unexpected performance on a black piano previously gifted to the venue by Elton John.
The 15-time Grammy award-winning artist treated the audience at St Pancras International Station, a key hub connecting London and Europe, to a selection of four songs, including her iconic hits ‘Empire State of Mind,’ ‘If I Ain’t Got You,’ and ‘No One.’
The pleasant surprise entertainment lasted only 10 minutes, but was greeted with cheers and applause from a grateful crowd which kept growing until she had to stop.
Keys was in London over the weekend to headline a concert at the O2 Arena hosted by a local radio station.
She also sang from her recent release ‘Lifeline‘ from the soundtrack of the musical feature film ‘The Color Purple.’ The film is adapted from the Broadway stage musical, itself based on the 1982 novel.
Currently, the R&B star is nominated for the 66th Grammy Awards in the Best Immersive Audio Album category for ‘The Diary of Alicia Keys,’ a release marking the 20th anniversary of her highly successful second album of the same name.
