A 67-year-old university professor, identified as Tony Polito, who had his job application at the University of Nevada turned down recently has angrily shot several persons on the Las Vegas campus killing three and wounding several others including two police officers.
The incident occurred Wednesday 6 afternoon.
Police Sheriff Kevin McMahill described it as a “heinous, unforgivable crime” but praised the “heroic” officers who responded, engaging the gunman and shooting him down. The assailant’s weapon has not been established.
But an enraged President Joe Biden complained bitterly about Congress’s inertia in passing the controversial gun laws, and warned that the specter of gun violence should never be normalized in the United States of America.
“This year alone, our nation has experienced more than 600 mass shootings, and approximately 40,000 deaths due to gun violence. This is not normal, and we can never let it become normal”, he warned.
This shooting comes only days after six were shot dead in Austin and San Antonio in Texas.
“For all the action we have taken since I’ve been President, the epidemic of gun violence we face demands that we do even more”, Biden lamented.
Meanwhile Adam Garcia, the director of university police services, said “The entire Nevada system of higher education and campuses are closed, out of an abundance of caution”, although he clarified there are no visible signs of danger in other campuses.

Mass shootings have been on the rise since the last two decades in America, with many demanding a ban on assault guns, but conservatives and gun rights lobbyists refuse pointing to the constitutional Second Amendment that gives citizens the right to bear arms.
