The MFM Lagos have thrashed favourites Nigeria Customs 64 – 60 to win the 2023 Zenith Women’s Basketball League.
The final game of the three-day tournament played Thursday at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Lagos, was tension-packed and thrilling from start to finish.
At the end of the second and third quarters of the game, MFM Lagos led the Customs 32-28 and 50-40 respectively but was stopped in their tracks 58-58 by the determined comeback of the Custom ladies in the final quarter.
Faced with the tie, by the rules, a five minutes extra time was given and the MFM soared with additional 6-points to Customs 2-points ending the game in a spectacular win for the spiritual girls 64-60.
To reach the national finals, MFM Lagos and Bayelsa Whales survived the grueling elimination stages from the Atlantic Conference while Air warriors and Nigeria Custom emerged from the Savannah Conferences.
Nigeria Customs defeated Air Warriors in the semi-final while MFM Lagos triumphed over Bayelsa Wales to play the final of the finals.





The Customs ladies came into the finals as favourites having won all their games in their Atlantic Conference but was ultimately humbled by the Dr. D.K Olukoya girls.
Last year, MFM was the runner’s up having been defeated by Air Warriors.
MFM Lagos is owned by the Christian spiritual organization, the Mountain of Fire and Miracle Prayer Ministry Worldwide with it’s headquarters in Lagos.
Presenting the trophy to the captain of the MFM Lagos, Managing Director/CEO of Zenith Bank, Ebenezer Onyeagwu, commended the quartet (four finalists) for reaching the national finals and for a very rigorous and exciting competition.
Zenith Bank plc is the sponsor of the Nigerian National Basketball Tournament since 2004.
The winners take home a trophy redeeming cash prize of N30,000,000.
