Deadly terrorist Alhaji Dogo Jede on Tuesday reportedly got married to a new wife in the Kwusasu area of Shiroro, Niger State amid celebrations and fanfare among the locals.
His new bride is a 16 years old Christian girl from the Gbagy tribe in the Aglunma village in Kwusasu.
Dogo Jede is the head of a terror group said to be operating and in firm control of the areas of Kwusasu, Chukuba, Nasa, Wurukuchi and Iburo all in the Shiroro LGA, after he fought off a rival terrorist group.
He is said to have reached an understanding with the local population to protect them in return for their support for his quasi-government over the area. He foisted his flag and collects taxes from the people.
Villagers say Jede routinely is sighted in the markets and worships at the local mosques every Friday. One village confided in a journalist recently, “As I speak with you, Dogo Jede, his family members and his gang are on the payroll of the communities that I mentioned earlier. They enjoy free food and there is an amount the people contribute for him, to allow them to farm. The people have no choice because nobody can help them and they have nowhere to run to.
“They must live in the communities to do their farm business, which is their only means of survival. Initially, when they relocated from the communities, life became completely unbearable for them, so they had to come back and embrace peace with the bandits’ leader and agreed with his terms,” he added.
The previous governor of Niger State Abubakar Sani Bello did not mince words in admitting that terrorists have taken parts of his state.
Earlier in the week, troops of the Nigerian Army were ambushed in the same area and air operations to rescue them came to a tragic end.
The government of President Bola Tinubu continues where his predecessors stopped to battle the scourge of terrorism in Nigeria’s northern region since 2009.
