A fast-food outlet in South Africa has been ordered to withdraw a commercial showing an African explorer discovering Europe in 1651.
South African regulators on Tuesday banned the TV ad, saying colonization was “not open for humorous exploitation.”
The advert by Chicken Licken, a chicken restaurant chain, reverses the story of colonization by showing a man leaving South Africa in 1650, sailing overseas and, after many adventures, he comes ashore and meets white locals.
After showing them how to properly hold a paper while showing his disgust, he proceeded to name the place Europe.
