The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it will start giving out Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to eligible registered voters in the next three days.
Chairman of the commission, Professor Joash Amupitan, stated this at a strategic engagement meeting with journalists in Abuja.
The exercise is expected to provide voters who recently registered, transferred their voting locations, or requested replacement of damaged cards with access to their PVCs ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to INEC, the distribution is part of ongoing preparations to ensure that eligible Nigerians can take part in the electoral process.
Amupitan said the Commission is strengthening the use of technology to ensure that stolen, lost or compromised voter cards cannot be used by unauthorised persons to interfere with the electoral process.
He also warned political parties and their supporters against disrupting the campaigns, rallies and other activities of rival parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Stakeholders’ Meeting Holds Tuesday in Abuja
INEC will hold a national stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, October 6, as preparations for the 2027 general elections intensify.
Adedayo Oketola, Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.
Oketola said the meeting would provide updates on the commission’s preparations for the elections. These include the voters’ register, candidate nominations, logistics and measures to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.
According to him, Amupitan will address the meeting alongside other key stakeholders involved in the electoral process.
“The national stakeholders’ meeting underlines the commission’s commitment to absolute transparency, proactive public communication and collaborative engagement with key actors in the electoral ecosystem,” the statement said.
The meeting is expected to bring together political party leaders, security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), members of the diplomatic corps, development partners and civil society organisations.
Observer groups, disability rights advocates, religious and traditional leaders, youth organisations and media executives are also expected to attend.
The event will take place at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre (BAT-ICC), Abuja.
It will be broadcast live on major national television networks and streamed on INEC’s official social media platforms.

Well I hope they factor into the meetings the safety of not just the people but the ballot boxes on that day to avoid it being tampered with.
January is just around the cornner, the steady preparedness against the due date is the right steps.
