Afrobeats singer Adedamola Adefolahan, popularly known as Fireboy DML, has explained how keeping his private life away from the public has helped him maintain a scandal-free career.
The Peru crooner shared his views during a recent interaction with fans, where he discussed his public image and approach to the music industry.
Fireboy said limiting public access to his personal life makes it harder for people to misunderstand him or form opinions about him beyond his music.
“They don’t know me enough to misunderstand me. I don’t give them enough personality or insight into my personal life,” he said.
The singer added that he avoids scandals and does not rely on controversial interactions with other artistes to attract attention.
“I don’t have scandals, I don’t relate with other artistes, I don’t sell my music with gimmicks,” he said.
Fireboy Prioritises Music Over Publicity
Fireboy’s comments highlight his preference for keeping his career focused on music rather than controversy.
Unlike artistes who use public feuds, personal revelations or publicity stunts to generate attention, he said he prefers to let his songs speak for themselves.
The singer rose to prominence after joining YBNL Nation, the record label founded by rapper Olamide.
His hit song Peru further boosted his profile and earned him more recognition among Afrobeats fans.
His approach could challenge other celebrities whose robust social media engagements makes it easier for fans to follow their personal lives, applauding or being critical.
For Fireboy, keeping some distance between his public image and private life appears to be a deliberate career choice that has helped him stay scandal-free.
He believes that revealing less about himself helps reduce speculation and keeps attention on his music.
