Meta announced two generative AI tools that let users create playable video games from text prompts. Finished titles can be distributed natively across Facebook, Instagram, and Horizon.
The tools, Horizon Create and Horizon Studio, were revealed at Meta Connect on 23 September 2026.
Built on the Meta Horizon Engine, they translate natural‑language descriptions into complete 2D or 3D games, including progression systems, art direction, character design, and multiplayer support.
Saxs Persson, VP of Horizon, said: “If you have a great idea for a game, you should be able to build it and get it in front of players without spending months navigating tools, hardware, and marketing.”
Horizon Create is a mobile app for instant inspiration. Users type a prompt or select a template, then refine art style, characters, and story by describing changes. Multiple projects can run at once, with notifications when builds are ready.
Horizon Studio is browser‑based, requiring no installation or gaming PC. It combines natural‑language prompting with full visual editing.
Creators can arrange scenes, swap assets, tune scripts, and shape layouts directly. Projects transfer seamlessly between Create and Studio, keeping assets and histories intact.
Publishing from either tool makes games instantly playable within Facebook, Instagram, and Horizon feeds. Meta explained: “Someone scrolling through Instagram can tap a clip of your game and be in a multiplayer session within seconds, without needing to download an app.”
Games bypass app stores, living directly in social feeds. Distribution is algorithm‑driven: titles that are engaging, stable, and retain players gain more reach. High performers qualify for creator payouts and monetisation.
Strategy, Safety And Market Impact
Meta integrated automated moderation filters, age ratings, and parental controls under its Family Center framework.
The move marks a pivot for Horizon, which launched as a VR app but struggled with adoption. By linking Horizon to Facebook and Instagram, Meta gains billions of potential users.
The strategy also positions Meta against Roblox, which has 123 million daily active users and its own AI‑powered creation tools.
Both Horizon Create and Studio are in early access, with a waitlist through Meta’s developer portal. Selected creators are already testing, with wider rollout planned.
Market reaction was positive: Meta’s stock rose about 4% after the announcement, hitting a one‑year high and up 18.2% year‑to‑date.
