NECO Releases 2026 SSCE Results, 60% Obtained Five Credits

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal.

The Registrar and Chief Executive of NECO, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, announced the results on Thursday during a press briefing at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.

Wushishi said 1,378,048 candidates registered for the examination, while 1,371,992 candidates eventually sat for it.

According to him, 804,948 candidates, representing 58.67%, obtained five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics.

He added that 1,162,118 candidates, representing 84.70%, obtained five credits and above irrespective of their results in English Language and Mathematics.

The 2026 SSCE Internal examination was conducted across Nigeria and six foreign countries, including Benin Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Niger Republic, Côte d’Ivoire, Togo and Saudi Arabia.

Malpractice Cases Drop

The council also reported a sharp decline in examination malpractice cases recorded during the 2026 examination.

Wushishi said 1,406 candidates were involved in various forms of examination malpractice, compared with 3,878 candidates recorded in 2025.

He said the figure represented a 64.74% decrease in examination malpractice cases.

The registrar attributed the reduction to improved examination processes, monitoring and measures introduced by the council to protect the integrity of its examinations.

He also explained that the adoption of computer-based examinations had helped reduce malpractice during NECO examinations.

On the issue of miracle centres, Wushishi said NECO does not operate such centres and only registers examination centres that meet its requirements.

“We register centres and have criteria for which we register these centres. We don’t know miracle centres because we have only one school and we cannot be associated with miracle centres,” he said.

He added that any centres operating as miracle centres were either established by state governments or privately owned and were not operated by NECO.

The results were released 63 days after the examination was concluded. Candidates can access their results through the official NECO result platform using their examinations details.

NECO said it would continue to strengthen measures aimed at maintaining the credibility and integrity of its examinations.
