The planned Initial Public Offering (IPO) of Dangote Petroleum Refinery will give Nigerians an opportunity to become shareholders in one of the country’s most strategic industrial assets.

President and Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, disclosed this in Lagos yesterday, stressing that the proposed listing goes beyond being a mere financial transaction, as it would provide Nigerians with an opportunity to directly participate in the value generated by an enterprise that is playing an increasingly significant role in the nation’s economy.

According to him, millions of Nigerians depend daily on refined petroleum products for transportation, manufacturing, logistics, power generation and other economic activities.

“Every day, Nigerians use products that depend on refined petroleum. What makes this IPO unique is that it gives people the opportunity not only to consume but also to participate as owners in the industrial system that powers economic life,” Dangote said.

He noted that strategic infrastructure had traditionally been beyond the reach of ordinary Nigerians, arguing that the IPO could broaden public participation in productive assets.

“When a businessman transports goods, when a farmer moves produce to the market, when a manufacturer powers production, when families travel across the country, energy plays a role. The refinery supports these activities. Through the IPO, Nigerians can now have a direct stake in the value being created,” he added.

Dangote said the planned listing could also deepen investment opportunities in Nigeria by allowing more citizens to participate in the growth of a major industrial enterprise. He explained that the refinery’s activities have implications for several sectors of the economy, particularly transportation, manufacturing, agriculture and trade.

The IPO is therefore expected to attract interest from individual investors and other stakeholders seeking opportunities within Nigeria’s growing industrial and energy sectors.

Dangote further stressed the importance of ensuring that Nigerians understand the opportunity and the broader significance of owning shares in a major domestic enterprise.
