Ten police personnel attached to the 44 Police Mobile Force, Abuja, have been killed by bandits in Kebbi State.

The officers were on special duty in Makuku village, Sakaba Local Government Area, when they clashed with armed bandits.

Two civilians were also killed in the attack.

According to a police situation report obtained by SaharaReporters, the gun duel occurred at Makuku village.

The report dated August 10, 2026, said information received at about 7:40 p.m. indicated that the bandits killed the personnel after a fierce exchange.

A team led by the Divisional Police Officer of Sakaba Division, DSP Umaru Bagudu, visited the scene and found bodies of the officers.

The deceased officers were identified as ASP Bala Buba, 43; Inspector Saminu Sulaiman, 40; Inspector Solomon Jatau, 39; Inspector Ayuba Hassain, 38; Inspector Umar Yahuza, 37; Inspector Auwal Sani, 38; Sergeant Jimoh Momo, 35; Corporal Ukpong Otrukmj, 34; Inspector Adamu Abdullahi, 35; and Inspector Abdullahi Magaji, 43.

All were serving on special assignment in the area.

The two civilians killed were Mohammadu Magwawara, 50, and Muhammadu Tiritiri, 45. Another civilian, Shehu Abubakar, 41, sustained gunshot injuries.

Bodies Evacuated As Bandits Cart Away Rifles

The bodies were taken to General Hospital, Dirin Daji, where they were confirmed dead. The injured victim was referred to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Birnin Kebbi, for treatment.

Beyond the casualties, the bandits reportedly seized weapons.

They allegedly took one RPG rifle, two riot guns, 10 AK-47 rifles and other ammunition after the battle.

Kebbi State is in North-West Nigeria, a region facing persistent banditry, kidnapping and attacks on security personnel. The Nigeria Police Force Mobile Force units are often deployed to reinforce local divisions in high-risk areas.

The 44 PMF is a tactical unit based in Abuja used for special operations across the country.

Security experts have called for better equipment and air support for personnel in rural operations.

Police authorities in Kebbi have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
