Nigerian singer and rapper Jesse Jagz has criticised celebrities who endorse and advertise betting and gambling companies.
The music star strongly denounced the trend in a recent post on social media.
According to him, celebrities involved in promoting gambling deserve to be “stoned”.
Sharing his opinion on X, Jagz wrote, “We suppose to dey stone any artist promoting bets and gambling.”
According to some statistics, over 60 million Nigerians between the ages of 18 and 40 actively engage in sports betting and gambling, making it one of the largest markets in Africa.
Celebrity endorsement has been identified as a major factor contributing to gambling addiction in the country.
Several Nigerian celebrities including singers, actors, skitmakers and influencers have endorsements with gambling brands both local and international.
