A political support group backing President Bola Tinubu has launched a major grassroots mobilisation drive in Abuja, targeting over 42,000 volunteers ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The City Boy Movement formalised its partnership with the FCT chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during a meeting at the party’s state office in Abuja.
The initiative focuses on voter registration, youth engagement, and ward-level outreach across the Federal Capital Territory.
FCT Coordinator of the group, Bitrus Garki, said the structure will cover all 2,822 polling units in Abuja.
He said, “City Boy Movement is not a political party; it is a support group.”
He added, “We believe in President Bola Tinubu and the founding principles of the APC.”
He said, “We are building a polling-unit structure across the 2,822 polling units in the FCT, with a target of over 42,000 volunteers.”
The group plans to use its membership register to track beneficiaries of future social intervention programmes.
Grassroots Strategy Targets 2027 Elections
The partnership comes as political groups begin early mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections, where voter turnout and grassroots reach will be decisive.
Garki outlined a seven-point plan that includes voter registration drives, digital campaigns, and youth leadership training.
He also announced a July 14 programme to empower 1,000 residents in the FCT.
In addition, the group plans a Community Impact Project to install solar-powered streetlights and deliver healthcare services across 62 wards.
Garki expressed confidence in the Tinubu administration’s policies, pointing to infrastructure development in Abuja’s rural areas.
He said ongoing road construction reflects government efforts to improve living conditions.
On opposition alliances, he maintained that the APC remains well-positioned due to its grassroots network.
APC Leaders Call For Rural Focus
FCT APC Chairman, Ishaku Yamawo, welcomed the collaboration but called for stronger engagement outside urban centres.
He said, “This interaction has come at the right time because our priority now is voter registration.”
He added, “Let us not limit the activities of the City Boy Movement to the city centre.”
He said, “We want you to take your activities to the area councils, wards and polling units.”
Yamawo explained that rural mobilisation often requires logistics and sustained outreach, especially in hard-to-reach areas.
FCT APC Women Leader, Faridah Odangi, said the territory’s voters are politically aware and require direct engagement.
She said, “FCT is very important in the 2027 election.”
She added, “Success will depend on hard work, engagement and direct interaction with the people.”
FCT APC Secretary, Ibrahim Kuje, also pointed to the importance of local structures.
He said, “All politics is local.”
He added, “Elections are won through practical engagement with the people and party structures on the ground.”
The event also featured the participation of National Coordinator Mukhtar Akoshile and other stakeholders.
Party executives were decorated with the movement’s branded caps and sashes, symbolising the new alliance.
