Sunday Igboho, the Yoruba Nation activist, said he will name politicians he alleged are linked to recent school kidnappings in Oyo State if the attacks continue.
He made the remarks on Wednesday while hosting newly elected National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) executives led by Akinteye Babatunde at his Soka residence in Ibadan.
Igboho said certain political figures were providing support to criminals operating in Oriire Local Government Area.
“I know the politicians behind them, and if they do not stop perpetrating their evil acts, I will mention them all. I know them. The politicians behind them are the ones giving them ammunition and money.”
He added that he had volunteered to help rescue the abducted victims but was advised against direct action because it could endanger the captives.
Igboho said authorities warned that any forced rescue could cost lives, so he held back.
“If I am permitted to burst into the hideouts, they will flee. They are humans and can be chased out.”
He argued that bandits hiding in forests across parts of the South-West could be dislodged if local security groups were allowed to operate more aggressively.
Igboho also linked the worsening insecurity to deliberate political tactics he described as attempts to undermine President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
“The same thing they did to Jonathan is what they are doing to Tinubu. They want to make the country ungovernable for him.”
Calls For Community Security And Rescue Plans
Igboho renewed calls for his proposed security outfit, the Iru Ekun Security Network, saying he had federal approval but faced state-level restrictions.
He urged that community-based security operations be allowed to complement formal security efforts in forest corridors.
His intervention followed the May 15 attacks in Oriire Local Government Area, which saw gunmen abduct dozens of pupils and teachers from Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community Grammar School, Esiele; and L.A. Primary School.
The abductions prompted security operations across forest corridors near Old Oyo National Park and surrounding communities.
Public anger grew after reports that one abducted teacher, Michael Oyedokun, was killed by his captors.
Security agencies launched search operations, but families and communities continue to demand the safe release of remaining captives.
Allegations Unverified, Officials Silent
As of filing, neither the Oyo State Government nor security agencies had responded to Igboho’s allegations of political involvement.
His claims remain unverified and would require investigation to establish any links between politicians and criminal groups.
Meanwhile, Igboho said he would expose names if the attacks persist, signalling possible escalation in public accusations.
