The Obidient Movement says Peter Obi‘s popularity is rising rapidly in northern Nigeria, as more communities publicly identify with his leadership style and social interventions.
In a symbolic moment, the District Head of Pantami in Gombe State conferred on Obi the traditional title of Sarkin Maskan Pantami—meaning Chief of Shelter and Peace of Pantami.
The palace letter praised Obi’s “dedication and determination towards the development of our community.”
Though Obi typically declines chieftaincy titles, his supporters accepted this one as a mark of growing national unity.
The title was made public by Dr. Tanko Yunusa, Global Coordinator of the Obidient Movement.
“The people of Pantami now call it ‘Peter Obi’s borehole.’ That tells you he has won their hearts,” Tanko said.
He also received a title—Dan Maje Baba Pantami—as a gesture of solidarity with the community.
Tanko described the moment as a “turning point in the movement’s national acceptance.”
He added, “This title represents unity and endorsement from a region many thought was unreachable.”
A New Political Bridge Between North and South
The title is Obi’s first from any northern emirate.
Observers say it may reflect a shift in regional alignment, where merit, integrity, and grassroots action are becoming more important than origin.
Obi’s humanitarian work in northern states is cited as a key driver.
He has supported borehole projects, Almajiri education, youth empowerment, and sanitation initiatives.
A Gombe youth leader said, “It’s not a gimmick. It’s leadership by example. He’s saying: give me four years and watch what I’ll do.”
The borehole he facilitated in Pantami is now a public landmark. “Go get water from Peter Obi’s borehole,” locals say.
Why the Movement Now Accepts Titles for Obi
Director-General of Big Tent Nigeria, Ibrahim Hussein Abdulkarim, explained the new policy.
“Mr. Peter Obi has a personal principle of not accepting chieftaincy titles,” he said.
But according to him, such honors are powerful symbols of love and support from the people.
“Instead of rejecting them, we’ve resolved to accept them on his behalf. They are cultural expressions of acceptance and trust,” he added.
“When people offer you a gift, you don’t reject it. This is special—it’s from the North, to someone from the East.”
Obi’s Single-Term Pledge Resonates Across Nigeria
Obi’s vow to serve only one term if elected continues to shape public perception of his integrity.
Dr. Tanko said, “He said even four years is too much for what he wants to achieve.”
Fixing power alone, according to Tanko, would etch Obi’s name in history.
The Obidient Movement views this promise as a sign of trustworthiness and national unity.
“Peter Obi is a unifier,” Tanko said. “His presidency will move Nigeria from consumption to production.”
He concluded that what Nigeria needs now “is integrity—and we’ve found it in him.”
