Fresh shipment data from S&P Global Energy shows that Dangote Refinery is pushing more jet fuel into Europe, with cargoes now heading to the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, France, Spain, Italy and Morocco.
The data was presented at an industry briefing in Kazakhstan on Wednesday and pointed to stronger exports of jet fuel, gasoil, naphtha and gasoline from the Lagos-based refinery between 2024 and 2026.
That rise gives fresh proof that the refinery has become a bigger force in the global fuel market, not just in Nigeria but across international shipping routes.
Europe Turns To Lagos
The new shipment data suggests Europe is buying more Nigerian jet fuel as supply tightens in parts of the global market.
Industry analysts linked the trend to tensions in the Middle East, shipping disruptions on key routes and outages at some refineries in other markets.
Recent monitoring by ARISE News also showed a sharp rise in Dangote Refinery’s jet fuel exports over the past year.
Europe has now become one of the refinery’s biggest destinations, with demand rising ahead of the busy summer travel season.
The United Kingdom is said to account for about 20% of the refinery’s jet fuel exports.
France, Spain, Italy and the Netherlands are also increasing imports as buyers look for supply sources outside conflict-prone regions.
That shift matters because jet fuel is a key cost item for airlines, and supply pressure often feeds into wider aviation pricing.
What The Data Means
Dangote Refinery has a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, making it one of the largest refineries in the world.
Since reaching full operational capacity earlier this year, it has steadily increased exports of refined products across Africa and into global markets.
Its Atlantic location gives it an advantage for seaborne exports, especially to Europe and other fuel-hungry markets.
Energy experts say this could improve Nigeria’s standing in the downstream oil business and strengthen foreign exchange earnings.
It also signals that Nigeria may be shifting from a heavy fuel importer to a stronger exporter of refined products, if the output pace continues.
The latest figures place the refinery at the centre of a changing aviation fuel market, where buyers are now turning to Lagos for supply.
