Nigeria has announced a new visa exemption policy allowing Rwandan nationals to enter the country without a visa for up to 30 days.
The Nigeria Immigration Service (immigration.gov.ng in Bing), in a statement on Friday, said it has “completed all arrangements” to implement President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive.
NIS spokesperson Akinsola Akinlabi explained: “Under this bilateral arrangement, Rwandan nationals may enter Nigeria without a visa for a period not exceeding thirty (30) days for lawful purposes, including tourism, business, and official engagements.”
He added: “Individuals seeking to remain in Nigeria beyond the approved 30-day period will be required to obtain the appropriate visa through a Nigerian Embassy or High Commission abroad, or the Nigerian e-Visa channel.”
The directive follows Tinubu’s announcement at the Africa CEO Forum in Kigali, reciprocating Rwanda’s earlier gesture of granting Nigerian citizens visa-free entry.
Implementation And Diplomatic Context
According to the NIS, all international entry points — airports, land borders, and seaports — have been directed to commence immediate implementation.
The Service said the initiative reflects strong bilateral ties between Nigeria and Rwanda, while promoting intra-African mobility, tourism, and economic cooperation.
It also aligns with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which emphasises regional integration and lawful migration in line with international best practices.
The NIS assured the public of its commitment to safe and orderly migration, encouraging inquiries through verified communication channels, including its 24/7 contact centre.
The policy is designed to strengthens Nigeria’s diplomatic engagement with Rwanda and supports continental aspirations for freer movement across Africa.
