Nigeria Hits 1.66mbpd 99.2% of OPEC Output Quota in April

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has announced that Nigeria nearly hit its full production target for April 2026.

According to data released on the commission’s official X handle, the country met 99.2% of its daily crude oil quota set by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

This development follows months of efforts to curb oil theft and technical glitches that previously hampered output. The new figures show that crude oil production rose to 1.48mbpd.

Furthermore, when including condensates, the total daily output reached 1.66mbpd. This performance is a 7.58% improvement when compared to the production levels in March.

The commission stated: “Nigeria’s production increased in the month of April to 1,488,540 barrels of crude oil and 174,873 barrels of condensates totaling 1, 663, 413 barrels per day.”

Analyzing the April Production Volatility

NUPRC explained that while the average was high, daily production saw some fluctuations throughout the month. The highest daily peak reached 1.85mbpd.

Meanwhile, the lowest production day for April was recorded at 1.46mbpd. The commission noted that hitting 99.2% of the 1.5mbpd OPEC quota is a major win for the economy.

The report added that, “This implies that Nigeria met 99.2% of its 1.5mbpd OPEC quota of crude oil.”

Currently, the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) provides the framework for these regulatory oversight duties. The NUPRC remains responsible for ensuring the sector meets these international targets.
