Ambode, Jandor, Withdraw from APC Gov’ship Race, Endorse Hamzat

Former Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has congratulated Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat after his adoption as the consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State.

In a statement issued Thursday, Ambode described Hamzat’s emergence as the result of loyalty, consistency, and sustained commitment to the party’s unity and growth.

“The reports circulating online about a supposed divorce between myself and Roseline Meurer are completely false. There is no truth to them, and they should be treated as such,” he wrote.

Ambode praised Hamzat’s consultations with party stakeholders, saying they reflected deliberate efforts to strengthen cohesion and advance collective interests in Lagos.

He also reiterated his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, pledging commitment to the President’s re‑election bid ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“As I congratulate Dr Hamzat on his adoption, I restate my unshakeable commitment to support the re‑election of our leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR,” Ambode said.

He added: “I strongly believe that the greater prosperity of Lagos and indeed Nigeria is firmly tied to the continued governance of Mr. President.”

Ambode expressed confidence that Tinubu’s leadership would consolidate national development and economic progress, insisting ongoing policies would yield long‑term benefits.

He called on APC members in Lagos to intensify mobilisation efforts, urging them to work collectively towards a decisive victory for the party.

Ambode set an ambitious target of at least three million votes for Tinubu in Lagos, encouraging party faithfuls to secure strong performances across National Assembly seats.

He also appealed for greater coordination among APC structures in the South‑West to boost electoral fortunes across the zone.

Ambode concluded with optimism, insisting stronger days lie ahead for Lagos and Nigeria under APC leadership.

Jandor Withdraws From Race

Meanwhile, Dr Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, announced his withdrawal from the governorship race under the APC platform.

Addressing supporters at Liberty House, Adeniyi Jones Secretariat in Ikeja, Jandor explained his decision followed Tinubu’s endorsement of Hamzat.

“Within hours after I purchased my nomination forms, there were developments, including a meeting involving the President and the Deputy Governor,” he said.

He added: “Based on my earlier position that I will align with the direction of the President, I have decided to withdraw from the race.”

Jandor’s withdrawal clears the path for Hamzat’s candidacy, reinforcing Tinubu’s influence in Lagos politics and strengthening APC’s dominance of Lagos politics for years to come.
