Peter Obi has confirmed a high-level meeting with Goodluck Jonathan, as political consultations ahead of the 2027 elections gather pace.
The meeting took place on Monday at Jonathan’s residence in Abuja, where Obi arrived with a delegation of South-East leaders and political associates.
Obi later shared details in a post on X, describing the discussions as focused and forward-looking.
“Our discussions were frank, thoughtful, and anchored on the urgent need to reposition Nigeria on the path of unity, security, stability, productivity, and inclusive governance.”
The visit comes as political alliances begin to take shape ahead of 2027, with key actors quietly engaging across party lines.

Obi said the engagement reflects ongoing consultations with national stakeholders as Nigeria faces economic pressure and insecurity.
“At a time when our nation continues to grapple with economic hardship, rising insecurity and deepening social divisions, it has become imperative that leaders… come together,” he said.
The former Anambra governor has consistently pushed a governance model centred on production rather than consumption.
Meanwhile, Jonathan, who served as president from 2010 to 2015, remains a respected voice in Nigeria’s political space.

“The 2027 elections must not just be seen as another political exercise, but as a critical opportunity to reset the trajectory of our country.”
He tied the process to everyday concerns, including education, jobs, and security for citizens.
“It must be about the Nigerian child… the struggling entrepreneur… and the millions of citizens who simply desire a secure and functional nation.”
