The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, dismissed allegations on Monday that he denied the African Democratic Congress (ADC) access to Eagle Square.
He clarified the situation in Abuja following an inspection of several ongoing road projects across the capital.
He described the accusations from the party’s factional leaders as baseless and politically motivated.
The Minister maintained that no political group has submitted a formal request to his administration for the use of public spaces.
Furthermore, he insisted that all organizations must follow established administrative protocols to secure government facilities.
Due Process for Abuja Public Facilities
Wike explained that the Abuja Investments Company Limited manages Eagle Square and handles all booking procedures.
This process involves a formal written application and the settlement of mandatory rental fees.
“Who denied them? I am not aware of any such development, and I don’t even know which party you are referring to,” Wike stated during the press briefing.
“If it is the African Democratic Congress (ADC), such claims are their usual attempt to gain public sympathy,” he added as reported by New Telegraph.
According to the Minister, other major parties have successfully used these venues by simply complying with the rules.
Meanwhile, he noted that the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome falls under the jurisdiction of the Sports Commission, not the FCTA.
“As we speak, no formal application has been submitted to the Abuja Investments Company Limited,” the Minister explained.
“When the APC used the venue and the PDP used the Stadium Velodrome, they complied with the process. We do not deny anyone access if the rules are followed,” he continued.
However, new evidence suggests that indeed the ADC may have rightfully and legitimately applied for the square.
Infrastructure Deadlines and Relocation Plans
Shifting focus to urban development, the Minister shared updates on the progress of critical infrastructure. He received firm commitments from contractors regarding the completion dates for several road corridors.
“The contractors have assured us that road works will be completed by May 15, while streetlight installations will be finalised before the end of May,” he said.
At Gaduwa, the Minister directed the immediate installation of protective mesh to prevent encroachment on road shoulders. He also addressed the long-standing issues facing the informal sector in the Wassa district.
The administration is preparing to relocate operators from the Apo Mechanic Village to a modern facility. This new site will include the necessary infrastructure to support artisans and traders.
“This project is aimed at improving the working conditions of artisans and fulfilling long-standing promises to the informal sector,” Wike stated.
The relocation seeks to sanitize the city center while providing a more structured environment for local businesses. Consequently, the FCTA is pushing for rapid development to meet the May 2026 milestones.
