Delta State Police Nab Teen WhatsApp Hacker

The Delta State Police Command has revealed how a 17-year-old boy allegedly hacked into celebrities’ WhatsApp accounts and sold explicit materials to fellow students.

The case was disclosed during a security awareness programme by comedian Otaghware Onodjayeke, popularly known as I Go Save, who spoke with Ugborikoko Division DPO, Temi Agbede-Zuokumor.

“Something told me to check the phone. When we did, we discovered that everything on the device belonged to the boy,” Agbede-Zuokumor explained.

Agbede-Zuokumor said suspicions arose after officers conducted a routine check on a student’s phone.

The boy’s mother initially claimed the device belonged to his sister, but inconsistencies prompted further investigation.

“We saw several foreign numbers, over 80 Australian lines, and the phone was filled with pornographic content,” she said.

Investigations revealed that the teenager allegedly sold explicit materials to classmates, who referred to him as “boss.”

He also reportedly gained access to WhatsApp accounts belonging to celebrities and used them to solicit money.

“We discovered he had access to WhatsApp accounts of some celebrities, which he used to demand money from unsuspecting victims,” Agbede-Zuokumor added.

Comedian I Go Save recounted his own encounter with a scammer impersonating Elon Musk.

“That was how someone impersonating Elon Musk messaged me, saying he was stranded and needed a recharge card,” he said.

The police warned parents and schools to remain vigilant, stressing that cyber-related crimes among young people are becoming increasingly sophisticated.

The rise in digital fraud among teenagers is embarrassing to the country with one of the youthful populations in the world, which ought to have been a source of global competitiveness for Nigeria, if well harnessed.
