The new Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has announced a sweeping plan to revamp the organisation and improve road safety nationwide.
He made the declaration in his maiden address to staff on Monday, May 27, 2024, at the FRSC headquarters.
“I am confident that together, we can overcome any challenges that come our way. With your continuous support and dedication, I believe that FRSC will reach even greater heights of success in line with the Renewed Hope agenda,” Mohammed said.
The Corps Marshal outlined six focal points for his administration.
“Rejig and reposition operational strategies to conform with present-day realities. Training and retraining of staff to align with realistic expectations. Strategic partnerships with sister agencies, international organisations, and Special Marshals.
“Digital transformation in operations, including the establishment of a Technical Advisory Unit. Discipline and renewed covenant with the Nigerian motoring public. Welfare, including harmonisation of the ranking structure, career progression, and provision of a conducive working environment.”
He acknowledged the contributions of FRSC’s founding fathers, including Professor Wole Soyinka and Dr. Olu Agunloye, stressing the need to revive their legacies to tackle challenges such as mob actions, staff assaults, and knockdowns.
Redeployment Of Senior Officers
In line with his restructuring drive, Mohammed approved the redeployment of five senior officers.
Assistant Corps Marshal Jonas Agwu, formerly Public Education Officer, now heads Administration and Human Resources.
ACM Chidi Nkwonta becomes Principal Staff Officer to the Corps Marshal, while ACM Hafeez Muhammed moves to Zone 7 as Zonal Commanding Officer.
Corps Commander Olusegun Ogungbemide was redeployed as the new Public Education Officer, while Deputy Corps Commander Wasiu Adenekan was appointed Technical Advisor and head of the Corps Information Technology Office.
“Let us work as a team, with sense of purpose and commitment to make our roads safer for all,” Mohammed urged, charging the redeployed officers to remain steadfast and share in FRSC’s vision.
Mohammed reiterated that the redeployment is part of efforts to align FRSC operations with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda for safer roads.
