The Katsina State Government, in partnership with Al‑Usra Marital Support Foundation, has organised intensive pre‑marital counselling for about 1,000 intending couples.
The exercise, held across Katsina, Daura and Funtua zones on Thursday, is part of preparations for the state‑sponsored mass wedding, Auren Gata, scheduled for April 25.
Dr Murjanatu Ibrahim‑Duwan, chairperson of the foundation, explained that the training was designed to strengthen family values and reduce divorce.
“The training is to prepare the couples for a successful married life by educating them on their responsibilities to one another and the importance of mutual understanding in marriage,” she said.
Screening And Training Across Zones
Ibrahim‑Duwan said the couples were screened by the Ministry of Women Affairs to ensure readiness for marriage.
She added that the exercise was divided into three zones to allow participants to attend conveniently.
She also noted that the sessions provided guidance on Islamic perspectives, conflict resolution, and ways to maintain harmony.
Certificates will be issued to participants as a requirement for the mass wedding.
“The Nigeria Immigration Service remains resolute in its mission to serve with integrity, discipline, and professionalism while facilitating lawful migration,” she added.
Support And Monitoring After Wedding
Hisbah Commander Dr Aminu Usman (Abu Ammar) described the initiative as the first of its kind in the state.
“This will help in reducing immorality,” he said, adding that the government would provide couples with support and capital for grooms to start businesses.
Commissioner for Women Affairs, Aisha Aminu‑Malumfashi, represented by Amina Sada‑Mashi, said beneficiaries underwent thorough screening, including genotype and HIV tests.
The ministry compiled and verified the final list of couples after medical evaluations.
The Hisbah Board confirmed it would continue monitoring couples after the wedding to ensure peaceful marriages.
Ibrahim‑Duwan said he is optimistic that the initiative would reduce disputes and strengthen family institutions.
