Women leaders of the Labour Party (LP) across the South East zone have passed a unanimous vote of confidence in Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, and the party’s Interim National Chairman, Sen. Nenadi Usman.
This endorsement emerged from a strategic online summit held on Monday, March 30, 2026. Consequently, the resolution signals a unified front for the party in its primary regional stronghold.
The leaders described the Otti-led administration in Abia as a clear reflection of the party’s transformative potential. Furthermore, they lauded Sen. Nenadi Usman for her prudent management of party affairs.
The joint statement was signed by the Deputy National Woman Leader (South East), Mrs. Ijeoma Chukwu, and National Organizing Secretary, Mrs. Chinelo Ofoche.
“The Otti-led administration is a reflection of the transformative potential of the party,” the leaders stated in their official communique.
They specifically praised Governor Otti and his deputy, Mr. Ikechukwu Emetu, for providing what they termed “purposeful and visionary leadership.”
Meanwhile, they recognized Usman for steering the party toward stability.
“Senator Nenadi Usman has been courageous and prudent in steering the party toward unity,” the resolution alleged.
Women Target Grassroots Mobilization And Electronic Registration
Beyond leadership endorsements, the meeting focused on the institutional growth of the Labour Party. The leaders pledged to intensify grassroots mobilization to ensure more women take active roles.
This horizontal move aligns with the party’s broader goal of increasing female participation in decision-making processes. They believe inclusion is vital for equity and sustainable development.
“Inclusion in leadership and decision-making processes remains vital for equity and sustainable development,” the leaders stated during the meeting.
Furthermore, they called on all female members across the South East to participate fully in the ongoing electronic registration exercise.
This digital shift is a core part of the party’s modernization policy.
The registration is a prerequisite for the forthcoming congresses and the National Convention.
Consequently, the women leaders described these events as critical to deepening internal democracy.
Abia Governance Sets Standard For South East LP
The meeting also recognized the contributions of Sen. Darlington Nwokocha toward strengthening the party’s structure. His efforts have reportedly helped in advancing the party’s ideals within the National Assembly.
Abia State currently serves as the only state governed by the Labour Party. Therefore, the women leaders are using its performance as a benchmark for future electoral campaigns in neighboring states.
“We are committed to positioning the Labour Party as a credible political force in the South East and Nigeria at large,” the group observed.
The leaders concluded by renewing their commitment to promote unity. They believe a strong grassroots base is necessary to withstand the pressures of the 2027 political cycle.
As the party prepares for its congresses, their main goal is to ensure that every member is captured in the new digital database.
