The Delta State Government has strongly condemned the recent assault on women during a festival in Ozoro.
The police have confirmed a full investigation into the violent incident.
Reports alleged that several women were stripped and beaten by a group of youths during the celebration.
Consequently, security agencies are working to identify and prosecute all those involved.
The State Commissioner for Information, Charles Aniagwu, described the acts as barbaric.
“The Delta State Government strongly condemns the harassment of ladies during the Ozoro Festival,” he said.
He noted that cultural events must never be used as a cover for criminal activities.
Additionally, the government has a 100% zero-tolerance policy for gender-based violence, he said.
According to a report by Delta State Official Portal, the state wants justice for all victims.
Demands For Justice And Prosecution
The Federal Ministry of Women Affairs also spoke out against the attacks.
The Ministry stated that no traditional practice justifies sexual violence or harassment.
“Such acts are contrary to all norms of human dignity and the rule of law,” the Minister noted.
Furthermore, women groups and ActionAid Nigeria have called for the immediate arrest of the culprits.
They argued that the circulating video evidence shows a grave failure to protect citizens.
Therefore, the police have increased patrols in the area to prevent further violence.
Meanwhile, the Women Affairs Ministry is providing support to the affected women
