2027: Sultan Of Sokoto Demands Free, Fair and Transparent Polls

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has called for a free, fair, and transparent process in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

The revered royal father said that credible polls are the only foundation for a stable and prosperous Nigeria.

He made this call in an official statement issued by the Secretary-General of the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Prof. Khalid Abubakar Aliyu.

The message coincided with the successful completion of the 1447 AH (2026) Ramadan fast and the observance of Eid-el-Fitr.

“We call on all stakeholders to be introspective and work assiduously towards credible, free, fair and transparent elections,” the Sultan stated.

He further added that a stable Nigeria must first exist before it can be governed.

Concerns Over Global Conflict And Economy

Beyond domestic politics, the traditional ruler expressed serious worry over the escalating Iran-USA-Israel war in the Middle East.

He alleged that if these conflicts continue to fester, the global economy will face a dangerous collapse.

The Sultan warned that wars significantly damage the human capital index and disrupt the world food chain. This is particularly risky for a country like Nigeria, which he described as “fragile.”

“Historically, wars have no good omen; it remains more of a destructive tool,” the statement read. He urged global leaders to seek the de-escalation of violence to prevent mass impoverishment.

The Sultan, also the spiritual leader of Nigeria’s Muslim community, encouraged the Muslim Ummah to observe the “Sittah-Shawwal,” the six days of recommended fasting that follow Ramadan.

He asked the faithful to intensify prayers for relief from the various misfortunes currently facing the nation.

Nigeria’s 2027 election is considered pivotal to its future direction, prompting rising demands for transparency, to ward off disputations after the election.

Additionally, the Sultan’s warning on the Middle East war explains why food prices and economic stability remain under threat locally.

Do you believe that the Sultan’s call for early election planning will reduce the usual tensions associated with Nigerian polls? Or that Nigeria’s notoriously disputed elections will have the credibility in 2027 that will improve the country’s political stability? Share your thoughts.
