The Anambra State Government has warned that pupils who fail to attend school on Mondays risk suspension.
Commissioner for Education, Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, issued the warning during a meeting with Mount Olive Schools and Spring Field Academy in Onitsha.
She said the directive followed instructions from Governor Chukwuma Soludo, who ordered schools to enforce full attendance.
Chuma-Udeh explained that pupils absent on Mondays would face a one-week suspension.
She noted that the government would no longer tolerate violations of its directive mandating normal academic activities across the state.
Officials of Mount Olive Schools told the ministry that attendance had improved in recent weeks.
However, Spring Field Academy reported that some parents were still reluctant to send their children to school at the start of the week.
Both schools assured the ministry they would intensify efforts to ensure compliance.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education conducted the 2026 Transition Placement Examination for pupils across Anambra. Chuma-Udeh, accompanied by Permanent Secretary Ifeoma Agbaizu, monitored the exercise at several centres in Awka.
Centres visited included UNIZIK Demonstration School, Igwebeze Primary School in Ifite, and Igwebike Grammar School.
Officials confirmed the examination was conducted successfully without major incidents.
The commissioner said the government remains committed to enforcing discipline and ensuring that pupils benefit fully from academic programmes across the state.
