Fubara Sends Fresh List of Commissioner Nominees to Rivers Assembly

The Rivers State House of Assembly has confirmed receiving a fresh list of commissioner nominees from Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Clerk of the House, Emeka Amadi, disclosed the development in a statement posted on the assembly’s Facebook page on Tuesday. The governor nominated nine individuals believed to be the first batch of commissioner nominees.

The list includes Professor Datonye Alasia, Tonye Bellgam, Temple Nwofor, Peters Nwagor, Charity Deemua, and lawyer Tamuno Williams. Others are Lekue Kenneth, lawyer Otonye Amachree, and Amairigha Hart.

According to the statement, nominees must submit 40 sets of their Curriculum Vitae, photocopies of credentials, and evidence of tax compliance.

“All documents should be forwarded to the office of the Clerk of the House at the Rivers State House of Assembly Quarters,” Amadi said.

The development comes amid a prolonged political crisis between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

Their relationship broke down months after Fubara assumed office in 2023 over control of political structures in the state.

The crisis, which led to multiple impeachment attempts against Fubara and his deputy, Professor Ngọzi Odu, and a six months suspension from office under a state of emergency, was recently eased after President Bola Tinubu intervened in February.

Days later, the governor dissolved the state executive council.

On February 19, the assembly withdrew its third impeachment move against Fubara and Odu, signaling a temporary truce.

The submission of new commissioner nominees is seen as part of efforts to rebuild the state’s executive council and restore normal governance in the state.
