The presidency has dismissed reports alleging that a kitchen staff member at the State House was arrested for attempting to poison President Bola Tinubu.
Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described the claim as false in a post on his verified X handle.
“No Aso Rock kitchen staff arrested. No Aso Rock kitchen staff attempted to poison President Tinubu. Please ignore this fake news being disseminated by a video,” he wrote.
Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Tope Ajayi, also rejected the allegation when contacted by The Nation newspaper. “Fake,” he said.
The rebuttals followed circulation of a video and online reports alleging that an unnamed chef at the Presidential Villa had been apprehended in connection with a poisoning plot.
The report provided no credible source or verifiable details but quickly spread across social media, sparking speculation.
The presidency’s categorical denial has put the rumour to rest, describing it as baseless and urging the public to disregard the misleading content.
As of press time, no security agency confirmed any arrest, investigation, or breach related to the allegation.
Officials warned against spreading unverified information capable of causing panic and undermining public trust in national institutions.
