President Bola Tinubu has welcomed the official launch of Lebara Nigeria, describing it as a major boost to the country’s digital economy.
Lebara Nigeria, part of the global Lebara Group, launched mobile services in Nigeria recently.
The company also claims it is introducing initiatives to support digital inclusion through community internet hubs.
Its offerings are designed to make communication more affordable and accessible across Nigeria, including tailored plans for businesses and Nigerians in the diaspora.
Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga confirmed the development in a statement Saturday.
He said Tinubu sees the launch as a sign of growing investor confidence in Nigeria’s telecom sector, which strengthens the nation’s position as a technology hub in Africa.
Tinubu congratulated Lebara Nigeria’s CEO, Mrs. Teniola Stuffman, and her team for expanding telecom access, creating jobs, and improving digital infrastructure.
“This milestone is a strong vote of confidence in Nigeria’s digital economy and its future as a leading technology and investment destination in Africa,” the statement read.
He also acknowledged the British High Commission, represented by Deputy High Commissioner Johny Baxter, saying the partnership reflects strong economic and diplomatic ties between Nigeria and the UK.
Nigeria’s telecom sector is very strong, growing 5.78% year-on-year in Q3 2025 and contributed over 14% to GDP.
The ICT sector overall accounted for 10.07% of real GDP in Q4 2025, up from 9.79% in 2024, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.
