National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu says separatist groups enforcing the ‘Sit-At-Home’ order in the South-East are losing control. Security conditions in the region have improved, he said.

Speaking at the APC National Summit in Abuja, Ribadu reported progress under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. He said key figures of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), have been captured or neutralized.

“The ‘sit-at-home’ orders are becoming more and more ineffective,” Ribadu said. He added that attacks on security personnel have reduced.

Over 50 police stations and posts have been rebuilt, helping restore normal social and economic activities.

North-West: Fighting Banditry

Ribadu described the past year as a turning point in the fight against armed banditry. He revealed that 11,250 hostages have been rescued since Tinubu took office.

“We have delivered decisive blows to top warlords,” he said. He listed Ali Kachalla, Boderi, Halilu Sububu, Dangote, Isuhu Yellow, and Damuna among those eliminated.

More than 50 warlords, 70 deputy commanders, and hundreds of foot soldiers have been neutralized. Additionally, 35 warlords have surrendered under the government’s Kaduna Model strategy.

Ribadu reported that 13,543 terrorists have been neutralized. Over 124,408 Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters and their families have surrendered.

Security forces have recovered 11,118 weapons and 252,596 rounds of ammunition. Operations continue in Timbuktu Triangle, Tumbu islands, and other enclaves.

Niger Delta: Oil Security

Security forces dismantled 1,978 illegal refineries and destroyed 3,849 dugout pits and 3,773 illegal cooking ovens.

“For the first time in years, all pipelines are now green—fully operational,” Ribadu said. Oil production has increased to 1.8 million barrels per day.

He cited the Binance investigation as a key step in fighting cybercrime. “Many suspicious accounts connected to terrorism, banditry, and separatist activities have been shut down,” he said.

A new Critical National Information Infrastructure Protection Plan is now in place. The National Digital Forensic Laboratory is supporting military and law enforcement investigations.

Broader Security Challenges

Ribadu acknowledged ongoing threats, including cybercrime, terrorism, and regional instability in the Sahel and Lake Chad Basin. He warned that climate change and the spread of small arms are worsening insecurity in Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso.

“Since May 29, 2023, significant gains have been recorded in addressing Nigeria’s complex security landscape,” he said. Intelligence gathering, targeted interventions, and strengthened security operations have helped stabilize key hotspots.

The NSA advised that economic growth, infrastructure development, and responsive governance are essential for long-term peace.
