Enugu State University (ESUT) Holds Its 45th Matriculation Ceremony

The Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) on Friday, February 20, 2026, held its 45th matriculation ceremony, formally admitting newly enrolled students into the institution.

The ceremony, held at the university's campus in Agbani, Enugu, was the official induction of fresh students for the 2025/2026 academic session.

Declaring the ceremony open, the Vice-Chancellor, Aloysius Okolie, stated that the event represents the university’s 45th matriculation exercise. He described it as a reflection of the institution’s longevity and a long-standing academic tradition.

According to Prof. Okolie, ESUT complies with the terms of its operational licence as stipulated by the National Universities Commission, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), and other relevant regulatory bodies.

He emphasised the need for the decentralised matriculation model adopted by the university, noting that conducting the ceremony across faculties improves coordination and enhances participation at the faculty level.

The Vice-Chancellor also commended members of the monitoring team for ensuring that matriculating students complied with established guidelines, particularly in areas relating to transparency and due process. He expressed appreciation to staff, students, parents, and guests who attended the ceremony.

Due to the large number of matriculating students, the event was conducted across various faculties, with each faculty hosting its segment of the ceremony where students took the matriculation oath and were formally recognised as members of the academic community.

Prof. Chike, head of the ceremonial team, coordinated the activities of the day and was congratulated by the Vice-Chancellor and members of the monitoring team for their collective efforts.

Following the ceremony, parents were encouraged to visit their wards’ departments and classes to observe academic activities and provide constructive suggestions where necessary.

Some parents and guardians commended the university management for organising the event and expressed optimism about the academic journey ahead.

However, others raised concerns about heavy traffic congestion experienced during the ceremony.

The 45th matriculation ceremony forms part of ESUT’s academic calendar and marks the formal admission of new students into the university community.
