At least two people were killed and several others injured after a motorcycle bomb detonated near a police station in northwestern Pakistan, authorities confirmed on Sunday.
The explosion occurred close to the entrance of a police facility in Bannu district, located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, a region that has witnessed repeated militant attacks in recent years.
Security officials said the bomb had been planted on a parked motorcycle and exploded as people were passing nearby.
Police and rescue workers rushed to the scene following the blast, cordoning off the area and transporting the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Local officials reported that some of the wounded were in critical condition, while nearby buildings and shops sustained damage from the explosion.
Although no group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, suspicion has fallen on militant factions linked to the Taliban that have carried out similar operations in the region.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa borders Afghanistan and has long been a hotspot for violence linked to extremist groups targeting security personnel and civilians.
A senior police official said ”investigations were underway to determine who planted the explosive device and how it was triggered”.
Security patrols were reinforced around key installations in the area as a precaution against further attacks.
Aftermath of the Incident
In recent years, Pakistani authorities have struggled to contain violence linked to outlawed militant organizations, despite intensified security operations.
Residents of Bannu described the blast as loud and terrifying, saying it caused panic among shop owners and passersby in the busy area near the station.
Traffic was temporarily halted as bomb disposal units inspected the surroundings for possible secondary devices.
The Pakistani government has repeatedly vowed to strengthen counterterrorism efforts and improve security around sensitive locations, including police stations and military checkpoints.
However, attacks in the northwest continue to pose a challenge to law enforcement agencies.
