Police in Western Australia are investigating the deaths of a couple and their two teenage sons in what is being treated as a suspected murder-suicide in Mosman Park, a suburb of Perth.
The bodies of Jarrod Clune, 50, Maiwenna “Mai” Goasdoue, 49, and their sons Leon, 16, and Otis, 14, were discovered at their home on Friday, January 30, after a care worker arrived for a routine visit.
A note on the front door instructed emergency services not to enter.
Detective Jessica Securo confirmed the case is being treated as a murder-suicide. She noted there was no known history of domestic violence at the address.
“There doesn’t appear to be a violent incident that has occurred at the house,” she said.
Inside the property, officers found the family members deceased along with their two dogs and a cat.
A second note, discovered the following day, outlined financial matters and suggested the parents had jointly decided to end their lives.
Family’s Struggles
Friends and support workers said the couple had been devoted to their sons, both of whom were autistic and non-verbal, but felt increasingly isolated and unsupported. Reports indicated the family had lost government funding for one of the boys’ care.
Former support worker Maddie Page paid tribute to the children, writing: “All they wanted was to be understood – and when they did, they captured your heart. My heart feels unbearably heavy knowing that the NDIS system failed them, and that they were made to feel they had no other choice.”
A close friend, Nedra, told the Daily Mail the couple often felt abandoned by family, schools, and support services.
“No one can understand the endless fight to get the support and services they so desperately needed,” she said.
Another friend described them as a “strong couple” who loved their children but were “fighting a losing battle against a system which is not here to assist.”
Floral tributes, handwritten cards, and white ribbons have been placed outside the family’s home. Local residents are planning a candlelit vigil to honor the lives lost.
This tragedy has sparked renewed criticism of Australia’s National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), with calls for stronger support for families caring for children with complex needs.
