Ruling APC and Opposition ADC Trade Words Ahead of 2027 Elections

Political temperature is rising as leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) intensify preparations for next year’s general elections.

On Monday, APC chieftain Biodun Ajiboye warned Nigerians to be cautious of the ADC, claiming the opposition party poses a threat to the nation’s future.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Ajiboye said: “If Nigerians are not careful with these people called the ADC, they will destroy the future of Nigeria.”

He likened the opposition’s activities to insurgency, accusing them of spreading propaganda and misrepresenting government efforts.

“These people are very wicked, and Nigerians need to understand that coalition called ADC is evil,” Ajiboye added.

ADC Welcomes Obidient Movement

Meanwhile, former APC National Chairman and ADC leader Chief John Odigie-Oyegun expressed confidence that the ADC, in collaboration with the Obidient Movement, will unseat the APC in 2027.

The Obidients are an amorphous youths-led group of active citizens fanatically committed to the principles and political vision of its leader, Peter Obi.

Speaking in Benin City during a mass defection of Obidient members into the ADC, Odigie-Oyegun said the influx of young Nigerians into the party signals readiness for change.

“A new Nigeria is truly possible,” he declared. “From the day this coalition came together, I was convinced we are on the right path.”

The development follows the formal entry of former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi into the ADC, a move that has energized supporters nationwide.

Calls for Change

Edo State Obidient Movement Coordinator Asemota Idiogbe described the ADC as the most viable platform to challenge the APC.

“This is the right party to battle the APC in Edo and Nigeria. ADC will take over Edo and the country,” he said, expressing optimism that Obi will emerge as the party’s presidential candidate.

ADC state chairman Kenneth Odion welcomed the Obidient Movement, while the party’s woman leader Faith Ebodaghe urged women to play active roles.

“The ADC is on a rescue mission. We are the David sent to confront Goliath. With our voter cards, we will bring down the APC,” she said.

The Obidient Movement, which played a pivotal role in Obi’s strong showing during the 2023 presidential election, is now fully merged into the ADC, positioning the party for a stronger challenge in 2027.
