The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) has confirmed the delivery of military supplies to Nigerian security agencies in Abuja, underscoring Washington’s commitment to bolstering Nigeria’s fight against terrorism and violent extremism.

In a post on X on Tuesday, AFRICOM stated: “U.S. forces delivered critical military supplies to our Nigerian partners in Abuja. This delivery supports Nigeria’s ongoing operations and emphasizes our shared security partnership.”

The Federal Government noted that the US has pledged to deepen cooperation with Nigeria through:

  • Enhanced intelligence support
  • Provision of defence equipment and articles
  • Reinforcement of ongoing operations against extremist groups

This follows a high-level Nigerian delegation’s visit to Washington in November 2025, led by National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.

The delegation engaged with senior officials from the US Congress, the State Department, the National Security Council, and the Department of War, among others.

Key Delegation Members

  • Lateef Fagbemi, Attorney General of the Federation
  • General Olufemi Oluyede, Chief of Defence Staff
  • Lt. Gen. Emmanuel Undiandeye, Chief of Defence Intelligence
  • Kayode Egbetokun, Inspector General of Police
  • Representatives from the Office of the National Security Adviser

During the meetings, Nigerian officials refuted allegations of genocide, stressing that violent attacks affect communities across religious and ethnic lines. They warned against mischaracterisations that could divide Nigerians and distort realities.

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga said the discussions helped correct misconceptions, reinforced mutual trust, and advanced a coordinated approach to protecting vulnerable communities, particularly in the Middle Belt.

Both countries agreed to implement a non-binding cooperation framework and to establish a Joint Working Group to coordinate agreed areas of collaboration

Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening civilian protection measures, while the US pledged complementary support, including humanitarian assistance for affected populations and technical support to strengthen early-warning mechanisms

Is the supplies for free or in exchange for something not shown to the public eyes?
