ADC Inaugurates Constitution Review Committee Ahead of 2027 Elections

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Thursday intensified preparations for the 2027 general election with the inauguration of a constitution review committee in Abuja.

ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark, said the committee’s mandate includes strengthening provisions that promote transparency, equity, and internal democracy within the party.

The ADC was unveiled last July by key opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Anambra State governor Peter Obi, and former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi, among others, as a coalition platform for the 2027 polls.

On Wednesday, the party also inaugurated a 21-member Membership, Revalidation, Mobilisation, and Registration (MRMR) Committee, stressing that its success in national politics depends on building a strong and credible membership base.

Mark’s Charge to the Committee

While inaugurating the constitution review committee, Senator Mark urged members to produce a document that enhances discipline, guarantees transparency, and strengthens internal democracy.

“This exercise is not about changing principles; it is about strengthening them. It is about ensuring clarity, fairness, inclusiveness, and accountability in our structures and processes. It is about creating a framework that empowers our members, promotes unity, resolves disputes fairly, and positions the ADC as a credible alternative for national leadership,” he said.

Mark added that members were carefully selected based on experience, integrity, and commitment to party ideals. He encouraged them to consult widely and remain committed to the collective interest of the ADC.

The chairman of the committee, Etigwe Uwa (SAN), pledged that the panel would strive to produce a constitution acceptable to party stalwarts nationwide.

“We would seek inputs from as many members as we can, and we would do our best to produce a near-ideal, autochthonous, and workable constitution that enjoys buy-in and acceptance across the party and across our country. We solicit your support and pledge not to fail the party,” Uwa said.
