Abia State Governor Alex Otti has asked Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North, to brace for a crushing defeat in the 2027 general election.
Otti, speaking through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, on Monday, was reacting to Kalu’s claim that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would take over Abia State in 2027 and that he would work for APC candidates.
The governor dismissed suggestions that he had ever sought Kalu’s support for re‑election, describing the senator’s repeated emphasis on not backing him as “pedestrian and ludicrous.”
Otti said genuine party loyalists show support through hard work, not noise, warning that any subtle threats from Kalu would backfire.
“If Senator Kalu’s repeated statements are geared towards issuing subtle threats to Governor Otti, then he is committing a calamitous blunder of costly consequences, because threats toughen rather than frighten or weaken Governor Otti,” the statement read.
He challenged Kalu to produce his polling unit and ward results from the 2023 elections, noting that INEC’s figures showed APC suffered heavy losses across Bende Local Government Area, Kalu’s constituency, even as the senator won his seat.
Otti questioned how President Bola Tinubu could have lost in Kalu’s constituency if the senator truly worked for his party.
The governor also revealed that four Labour Party aspirants have already declared interest in contesting the Abia North Senatorial seat, assuring that whoever emerges will receive his full backing to secure victory in 2027.
