Multi-award-winning actress and producer Funke Akindele has made history with her latest film, Behind The Scenes, which has become the highest-grossing Nollywood movie of 2025, earning ₦1.767 billion in less than four weeks.
Distributor FilmOne Entertainment confirmed the milestone, noting that the film had already broken five opening-weekend records, including the highest single-day gross on Boxing Day with ₦129.5 million.
In a celebratory post, the company wrote: “Behind The Scenes hits a whopping ₦1.77B also standing as the Number 1 film of the weekend. Thank you to everyone for the love and support so far.”
This marks Akindele’s third film to cross the ₦1 billion mark, following A Tribe Called Judah and Everybody Loves Jenifa, which set records for Nollywood’s biggest opening weekend and highest-grossing film ever.
The success of Behind The Scenes was boosted by advanced screenings on December 10 and 11, generating strong buzz ahead of its nationwide release on December 12.
The film features an all-star cast including Scarlet Gomez, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, and Uche Montana.
Industry leaders such as Mo Abudu have praised Akindele, alongside fellow stars Toyin Abraham and Ini Edo, for their box office achievements, underscoring Nollywood’s growing global appeal.
