Otti Commissions Nkporo Unity and Technology Centre, Hails Diaspora

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has praised the Nkporo community in Ohafia Local Government Area for establishing a state-of-the-art technology centre, describing it as a landmark project that aligns with his administration’s vision for youth empowerment and digital inclusion.

The governor made the commendation on Saturday while commissioning the Nkporo Unity and Technology Centre, built by the Nkporo Development Union, United States of America (NDU-USA).

Represented by the Chairman of Ohafia LGA, Chief Eleanya Kalu, Otti said the centre would serve as more than just a civic facility.

“This project is not just a technology hub; it is a training and preparatory ground for innovators to conduct their research work,” he said.

He lauded the ingenuity and resilience of NDU-USA, led by Mrs. Nnenna Agwu, and pledged his administration’s support for the centre’s sustainability.

Features of the Centre

In her address, NDU-USA President Mrs. Agwu highlighted the facility’s capacity and scope.

“The Nkporo Unity and Technology Centre was born from a longing shared by our brothers and sisters in the Diaspora. We may live thousands of miles away, but Nkporo lives in us. Every village meeting, every fundraising event, every late-night Zoom call, this centre was behind every conversation. It was our heartbeat, and today, that dream is no longer a dream; it is standing gigantic before us – majestic, modern, and magnificent,” she said.

She disclosed that the centre houses:

  • A 1,000-seat hall
  • A digital computer laboratory
  • An e-library
  • Multi-purpose hubs for incubation, entrepreneurship, and economic empowerment

Mrs. Agwu described it as “the largest mega-centre of its kind, not only in Abia State, but in the entire South East region.”

Leaders Commend Project

Former Deputy Governor Ude Oko Chukwu said the building would serve both as a civic centre and a technological hub.

“Governor Otti has left no one in doubt of his determination and commitment to positively change the developmental narrative of Abia and its people,” he added.

A former Commissioner and convener of the project also praised NDU-USA for their vision, while the President General of Nkporo Development Union, Chief Benjamin Emeri, said the centre would be a catalyst for digital literacy and manpower development.

Emeri appealed to Governor Otti to intervene in the lingering boundary dispute between Ukwa Nkporo and the neighbouring Edda community in Ebonyi State, noting that the Supreme Court had conclusively settled the matter in favour of Ukwa Nkporo.

The commissioning coincided with a grand civic reception in honour of Governor Otti at the Nkporo Comprehensive Secondary School Field, where community leaders reaffirmed their commitment to protecting and sustaining the new facility.
