ICPC Summons Dangote Over Petition Against Ex-NMDPRA Boss

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has summoned billionaire industrialist Aliko Dangote to appear before its panel of investigators on Monday in Abuja.

This is following a petition he filed against Ahmed Farouk, former Managing Director of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), alleging corruption and abuse of office.

A source within the commission confirmed that ICPC Chairman Dr Musa Aliyu (SAN) has directed a special panel of investigators to focus on Dangote’s petition.

The oil magnate is expected to appear in person or send his lawyer, Ogwu Onoja (SAN), along with supporting evidence when the probe formally begins.

Allegations of Misconduct and Ongoing Probe

Dangote’s petition accuses Farouk of misappropriation of funds, including allegedly spending over $7 million on the education of his four children in exclusive Swiss schools without evidence of lawful income.

He further alleged that Farouk undermined Nigeria’s domestic refining capacity by colluding with international traders and oil importers through the continued issuance of import licences.

Although Farouk has since resigned his position, the ICPC insists the investigation will proceed, stressing that resignation does not absolve him of accountability.

Dangote is demanding Farouk’s arrest, investigation, and prosecution for allegedly living above his means as a public servant.

ICPC spokesperson John Okor Odey confirmed that the commission formally received Dangote’s petition on December 16.

The official says the agency will ensure fairness to all parties involved as the probe unfolds.
