Reps Launch Probe into Alleged Alterations in Gazetted Tax Laws

The House of Representatives has set up a seven‑man committee to investigate allegations of alterations in the gazetted copies of four tax laws. This follows a matter of privilege raised by Abdusammad Dasuki, a lawmaker from Sokoto State, during Wednesday’s plenary session.

Dasuki alleged that the gazetted versions of the Tax Acts currently in circulation differ from what was passed by the National Assembly and signed into law by President Bola Tinubu. The Speaker, Tajudeen Abass, directed that the matter be probed immediately.

The investigative panel will be chaired by Mukhtar Betara from Borno State, with members including Ahmed Idris, Sada Soli, James Faleke, Babajimi Benson, Iduma Ugariwey, and Frederick Agbedi.

The committee has been given one week to submit its findings for further deliberations by the House.

Lawmakers say the probe is critical to safeguarding legislative integrity and ensuring that no unauthorized changes undermine the authority of the National Assembly or distort Nigeria’s tax framework.
